Best Investment To Improve Presentation Skill

What’s the best investment you can make to improve your presentation skills? Well, it’s not taking presentation courses, reading books, or watching YouTube videos. The best investment is actually the time and energy you put into recording yourself presenting, and then studying those recordings.

Think of it this way: would you want to eat food from a chef who has read all the cookbooks and taken all the lessons, but has never actually tasted their own cooking? Of course not. So, in the same way, you need to taste your own “cooking” by watching videos of yourself presenting. It may be cringe-worthy, but it’s also one of the best ways to develop empathy and see yourself from the perspective of your audience.

I know it can be difficult to watch yourself on video. It’s like anything that’s good for us: it’s hard and demands a lot of willpower. But if you feel like you need some help getting started, there’s nothing wrong with seeking out a personal trainer or a presentation coach.

The key is to get your priorities straight. Don’t waste time and money on courses and books before you’ve studied yourself first. Don’t be that presenter who has never listened to themselves. Record, watch, cringe, and learn. Have fun with it!
